Description:
Pablo Picasso (Spanish, 1881-1973)
Round Dish from the Black Face Service, 1948, edition of 100 (RamiƩ, 35). Inscribed "EDITION PICASSO" and with Suzanne RamiƩ's monogram, and stamped "MADOURA PLEIN FEU EDITION PICASSO" all on the underside. Round white earthenware platter decorated with engobes, knife engraving, and red, green, white, and black glazes, diameter 17 in. (43.3 cm).
Condition: Surface grime (some effecting sheen of glazes - most apparent in black),chip to underside of rim just over 3/8 inches long.
Estimate $7,000-9,000
The glazing has inconsistencies, including a thinness to the edge and several rings (these almost resemble the sorts of rings that a glass of water might leave on a coffee table). The is a reddish mark (seemingly a part of the glaze?) in the line extending down from the eye on the right. There is a fleck of clay that was fired into the plate to the left of the two vertical lines below the smile. There is also a divot (that seems to have been fired into the clay?) to the right of the right eye. The chip on the underside is as described.
Items may have wear and tear, imperfections, or the effects of aging. Any condition statement given, as a courtesy to a client, is only an opinion and should not be treated as a statement of fact. Skinner shall have no responsibility for any error or omission.
