Auction: American Furniture & Decorative Arts - 2640BLocation: BostonDate / Time: March 03, 2013 10:00AM

Description:

Redware Covered Jar, probably New England, early 19th century, cylindrical-form jar with incised number "43" or "13" and two lines about the shoulder, with mottled green and orange glaze, ht. 9 1/4 in.

Provenance: Linsly Homestead, North Branford, Connecticut.
Estimate $600-800

Unknown if the jar lid is original-if centered, there is 1/8 in. gap between it and the jar rim all around.
There is no corresponding number incised on the lid, and the number on the front might be "43" instead of "13" the way the first number is inscribed.
Couple shallow chips around cover edge and some glaze losses there too. A few spots of glaze loss on rim, a few minor chips and glaze loss around base edge, no cracks or repairs, base dia. 5 in.
