Per Beth Carver Wees's book "English, Irish, & Scottish Silver at the Sterling and Francine Clark Art Institute," New York, 1997, the engraving on one side depicts "The Hermit," a scene taken from an engraving by Nicolas de Larmessin after a lost painting by Nicolas Vleughels (1668-1755) titled "Frere Luce." This teapot is very similar to one in the Clark Institute's collection (museum #1963.165),pictured as figure 236 in Wees' book.
